I'm not going to add to the comments about the greatness of the exhibits because they are amazing as others have saiid. I wanted to give some practical advice unstead. I've been to the Louvre in the summer and over Christmas and it can be wall-to-wall visitors and fighting the crowds can be exhausting. We hit the high points this trip using the Rick Steves audioguide and this made it very manageable. Also, even though we arrived 30 minutes after opening, I've attached a photo of the dreaded ticket line (we used the museum pass so we didn't have to buy our tickets there). There was almost no one in line as you can see.

On our first visit several years ago we got the video/audio tour. We found ourselves wondering from room to room trying to figure out our guide. This time we opted for Rick Steves audio tour of the main exhibits. It effortlessly led us through the museum and gave us the information we desired. Then with the must sees behind we enjoyed a casual walk by other wonders. Our first visit left us frustrated. This time we left feeling accomplished. There is certainly more in the museum than can be taken in without days of intense study but with Rick's help we came ,we saw and we were accomplished.
