There isn't much to say about the museum that hasn't been said. It's a huge place and there is so much to see you will need hours to get around it all. Easy to access via the metro and bang in the centre. What's not to like.
What can I write that hasn't been written hundreds of times before. You should book early, and still be prepared to queue. It's sooo worth it. You will see a fair percentage of the greatest works of art that human beings have ever produced. Don't try to see it all unless you have a week free. If you list the dozen or so things you really want to view (Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Michelangelo's Slaves, the Marly Horses, The Raft of the Mudusa, La Liberté, Vermeer's Lacemaker, Venus de Milo, Psyche and Cupid, the Cheat with the Ace of Diamonds, Dürer's self-portrait, whatever), and plan your route through the Louvre to see them, avoiding being distracted by looking left of right, you can probably get round in two hours. Then decide what you like best - Ancient Egyptian, Roman and Greek Sculptures, Northern European paintings, whatever, and spend a couple of hours in that section. You will now be so tired that you cannot absorb any more!
The Louvre is vast and magnificent. From the Mona Lisa to dozens of works from master painters and sculptors, this is a must see. You can spend months there admiring the various works of art or, if time is limited, hire a guide to take you to the highlights.
